Entertainment they say is part of our everyday lives, it is as old as man and can go as far as the culture of a man and it is still alive to date. Indeed Zing Jersey Carnival can be tagged as one of the fun and socially organized events in Taraba. First organized and held in 2020, the Carnival will be executing its fourth edition after years of having different editions including the maiden edition of the event. In preparation for the next edition which is slated for tomorrow, I have a conversation with the organizer of the event Mr. Wingate Sylvester.

The MC who also doubled as an event planner and the convener of Miss Northern Taraba is not new when it comes to event planning and execution having successfully organized various events. To get more clarity on why Zing Jersey Carnival is important I asked the convener and here is what he has to say.

"Zing Jersey Carnival is an annual event in Zing Local Government, that celebrates entertainers through music, dance, art, and presentation of awards. It was started to promote diversity and unity within the community while also highlighting the rich cultural traditions of the Mumuye people. The first edition of Zing Jersey Carnival was held in 2020 and has since grown to include football matches, Hike, White Parties, Concerts, and other events over several days"

For a social event to have a collection of people from different parts of the states in attendance, hosting the event in a place like this is a question to be asked, and fortunately, Mr. Wingate has an answer for that.

"Hosting events in Zing, especially the Jersey Carnival, may be beneficial for the local economy and social empowerment. Events like the Jersey Carnival create a platform for entrepreneurs to display their products and services, thus boosting the local economy. Additionally, such events promote unity and cultural exchange as people from different backgrounds come together to celebrate and have fun"

With security issues, thug activities usually happen during and after events organized in Taraba State especially places like Jalingo and its environs security is another paramount issue to look at, especially for individuals who wish to enjoy every bit of the entertainment that will be made available. When I talked to Mr. Wingate told me what he felt about safeguarding lives and properties during the event.

"Some potential solutions to prevent disruption during events in Taraba State could include working closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure security, implementing crowd control measures, enforcing and an orderly environment that could also help prevent disruptions during events"

I know that I have attended the Zing Jersey Carnival before, but this eagerness is pushing me to attend another edition, what advice would you have for me who intends to come to the event? 

"The advice I can give anyone who wants to attend the event is as follows: 

Plan, Start by researching the dates, locations, and events of the carnival so that you can plan your trip accordingly. Check our official media handle for more details to keep in touch

Book your accommodation early: Since it's a popular event, securing your accommodation early is critical. You'll want to book a place closer to the carnival location so that you don't have to travel far to participate in the activities.

Dress appropriately. Dressing up for a carnival is a big deal. The ideal costume should be lightweight and comfortable, with vibrant colors and bold patterns. Don't forget to wear comfortable shoes, especially for the hike.

Make friends. Zing Jersey Carnival is an excellent opportunity to meet people from different cultures and backgrounds. Take the time to connect and make new friends.

Have fun. Finally, relax, let your hair down, and have fun. It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you'll want to cherish. Remember, this is a celebration, and it's all about having a good time"
