The Taraba State Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, has announced that all borders that border the state with neighboring Cameroon will be temporarily closed during the election. It was disclosed during a dialogue session with reporters in the provincial capital Jalingo on Friday, National Commander H.K. Usman said the measure was aimed at preventing foreigners from entering the country during the exercises. He said the command has developed plans to work with other sister agencies like the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, the NSCDC, and the State Department, DSS.
The synergy will serve as an effective complement to the lead agency, the Nigeria Police, during and after the general election, he said. Expressing the command's willingness to monitor the borders, he said the command would "temporarily close all borders connecting the provinces with Cameroon until the elections are over. "Usman added that the border will reopen after the election and will be closed again during the gubernatorial election. He also reiterated the command's willingness to work tirelessly around the clock with other sister agencies to ensure that the state's general elections run smoothly. According to him, the command "has fully staffed in that order, from national to state, state to local government, county level, and various electoral districts. He urged young people to avoid violence. Five of the state's 16 municipalities share border with Cameroon.
