Flood submerges Dampar community, residents count losses

Residents of Dampar Community, in the Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State, have been counting their losses after a heavy downpour submerged the community.

Some of the residents, while narrating their ordeal to our correspondent, said the flood caused by the downpour destroyed houses and valuables worth millions of naira.

A resident, Yakubu Aji, lamented over the hardship landlords and residents were facing as he urged relevant government agencies to intervene to salvage the situation.

A chief in the community, Hashimu Adinga, described the flood as unfortunate and solicited government assistance for the affected residents.

Adinga, however, called for the construction of drainages and culverts in the community to address the perennial flood which had become a yearly occurrence.

Contacted, the Head, Local Government Administration, Ibi LGA, Abubakar Dali, said the council had been intensifying measures for the construction of drainages.

He called on the state and federal government to support their efforts to curb flooding in the riverine community.
