Poem: Mary - By Bliss Enoch

Daughter of the pastor,

To be protected from the world, locked indoors,

A virgin in body and in mind she was.

The only places she was allowed to go was school and the church,

And school was even owned by mum,

All the teachers were workers in church,

She was that monitored.

But Mary finished school and has gained admission.

Admission to study abroad,

To her parent, it is a blessing and privilege from God,

To Mary, it is freedom.

Now all the things she watched from the key hole of her cage she was free to explore.

First were the lollipops with chewing gums,

The type her mum forbade when she was within her supervision.

She was free to have them till she even made it an addiction.

Then she advanced in curiosity to parties and night clubs.

Then she started talking to boys which was forbidden once,

Gathering them like fleas compass a corpse.

She dis-flowered every innocence she had before,

From mind, to soul and body all at once.

This to her was freedom,

But this wasn't who she was,

A little exposure by mum and dad would have helped a lot,

But instead they choose to cage her and her curiosity burned,

Now she had become something she once prayed to not...

..but she didn't care. If she ended up meeting God.....

He'd probably reduce her hell knowing that it wasn't her first intention,

Or maybe He'd share her punishment with dad and mum,

Because part of this is actually their fault.
