NIMC: How Bribe And Nepotism Lingers In Jalingo Registration Centre

No one will believe that to be recognised as a Nigeria comes with a price until I witnessed one today. I arrived at the registration at exactly 5:57am after 30 minutes of trekking from sabon gari an area here in Jalingo.

I meet few people in the registration unit who are already waiting for the workers, according to my findings some were around since 2pm.

I was taken aback when I saw some individuals going into the registration unit without following due process

"A phone call can you get you inside" Says someone behind my back

Before exactly 7:30am large number of people have entered the registration unit

"If you pay N3000, you'll enter without question" another added

Pissed off as a result of the injustice, a woman told one of the workers there to his face about the injustice and illegal activities going on. The man who happened to be selling face mask and allegedly selling "Go Ahead" ticket to desperate individuals told the woman that these are friends and relatives of some workers

While sitting with a friend, a woman came to his place to lend N500 in order to pay for second reprint because she lost the previous slip

As I'm writing this many people are stranded and have been coming everyday without been registered, while repeating the same circle.

Lack of seriousness and commitment have made the system to linger in nepotism and transparency in work.

According to someone, the registration centre allegedly have only one computer while others are damaged and that prompt the delay in registration.

Before leaving the scene, a man came through the masses door to call out names of people who have written their names on friday to be register, while Monday entries are not looked on.

This issue have been lingering in Jalingo head office registration centre and I plead with relevant authorities to take action.
